Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Avel mobile application and related services (the "Service") operated by Avel ("we," "us," or "our").
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating a parent account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Parent and student responsibilities
Parents are the contracting party for family accounts. Student profiles and linked devices are managed under a parent account. You are responsible for supervising student use, maintaining account security, and ensuring use of the Service complies with applicable law and school policies.
3. Permitted use
You may use Avel for lawful family accountability purposes, including homework submission, optional homework verification, and optional device restrictions on authorized student devices. You must provide accurate account information and use the Service respectfully.
4. Account security
You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials, pairing codes, and devices linked to your account. Notify us promptly at support@getavel.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
5. Homework verification limitations
Homework verification features provide automated assistance only. They do not assign official grades, replace teachers or parents, or guarantee academic outcomes. Verification may be incorrect, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable.
6. AI output limitations
Automated and AI-generated feedback may contain errors. Do not rely solely on automated verification for high-stakes decisions without appropriate human review.
7. Google Drive integrations
If you attach homework from Google Drive, you authorize Avel to access and import only the specific file you select. Your use of Google services remains subject to Google’s terms and policies. Avel does not request access to your entire Google Drive.
8. User content
You retain ownership of homework, photos, documents, and other content you upload ("User Content"). You grant Avel a limited license to host, store, process, and display User Content solely to operate the Service. You represent that you have the rights needed to upload User Content.
9. Prohibited abuse
You agree not to:
- Use the Service unlawfully or to harm others
- Attempt to bypass security, authentication, or access controls
- Interfere with or overload the Service
- Upload malware, infringing material, or content you do not have rights to share
- Misuse third-party integrations, including Google or school platform connections
10. Service availability
We strive to keep Avel available and reliable, but the Service may change, pause, or become unavailable because of maintenance, third-party outages, device connectivity, or platform limitations. Features may vary by device, operating system, and configuration.
11. Intellectual property
Avel and its branding, software, and content provided by us are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you ownership of the Service itself.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" to the fullest extent permitted by law. We disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement where allowed.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Avel will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or zero if the Service is free.
14. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and may delete your account through the app. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect users, the Service, or legal compliance.
15. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated as required by law. Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms may constitute acceptance where permitted by law.
